If we are told that we have high cholesterol we should consider what that means and what should be done about it.
Does cholesterol harm the body? Medical science says that healthy cholesterol is actually needed for a healthy system. All cholesterol is not equal. There is the soft and fluffy variety that is healthy and the small, hard variety that is deadly. When is cholesterol dangerous? The condition of familial hypercholesterolemia is very rare and yet it is the condition upon which we tend to base treatment with drugs. Cholesterol levels in this condition may show: the condition of familial hypercholesterolemia is very rare. It should be treated medically. This involves blood tests that may show:
- High levels of total cholesterol
- Greater than 300 mg/dL in adults
- Greater than 250 mg/dL in children
- High LDL levels
- Greater than 170-200 mg/dL in children
- Greater than 220 mg/dL in adults
When we take drugs to reduce cholesterol levels in people that do not have familial hypercholesterolemia, the result is all too often heart attacks happen as a result of using the drugs. This is because the drugs suppress our ability to make healthy cholesterol.
What does need to happen when our cholesterol readings are higher than the doctor likes but not as high as the ones we just reviewed? Four things:
- harmful substances in the body need to be cleaned out
- diet needs to be changed
- HERBAL aids can be used
- Lifestyle changes
Harmful substances such as toxic defective cholesterol (the hard variety) should be cleansed by using routines such as the Three Day Juice Cleanse. Details are on my blog site if you search my site for the name Three Day Juice Cleanse.
Diet needs to change. Particularly, saturated and hydrogenated oils should be deleted from the diet and more healthy oils need to be used in their place. This is a permanent change rather than a short-term diet. The diet that leads to an undesirable cholesterol level will kill us. We do not want to go back to it. Search my blog site (listed in the author box below this article) for the name “GOOD NUTRITION – WHAT DO I MEAN BY THAT” to receive more instruction regarding an excellent way to eat.
Herbal aids can be used to address the undesirable cholesterol. One example is Dr. Christopher’s Blood Stream Formula. Ingredients in this formula are: Red Clover Blossoms, Chaparral, Licorice root, Poke root, Peach bark, Oregon Grape root, Stillingia, Cascara sagrada, Sarsaparilla, Prickly ash bark, Burdock root and Buckthorn bark.
Herbally speaking, there are more therapies that we can apply to this problem. One of these is cayenne pepper. The dose for this is 1 teaspoonful of the powdered pepper taken in a glass of cool water 3 times a day. Yes, it is hot. Yes, you can get used to it. The substances in cayenne pepper work together to heal the lining of the blood vessels. The result is that they are opened so that the blood can blow more freely.
Another excellent herbal remedy to add is cider vinegar. It is necessary to take 3 tablespoonfuls daily. A good way to do that is to stir the vinegar into warm water and add unpasteurized honey to taste.
Among the lifestyle changes needed is regular exercise, plenty of fresh air and sunshine, and adequate rest. A deficiency in any of these can – in some people – cause the body to secrete more cholesterol in order to protect itself. The body perceives this as stress and cholesterol is used in higher quantities by the body to protect itself against short term stress. Long-term deficiencies of good lifestyle will cause the body to actually begin to deteriorate and cause such conditions as raised cholesterol, plaque on the arteries, and high blood pressure.
